Sinner Is a Winner: Jannik Sinner Beats Taylor Fritz to Win U.S. Open Title

It hasn't been long now since the whole world watched in awe as Jannik Sinner beat Taylor Fritz to clinch the U.S. Open. Sinner has had a storied career filled with exciting ups and downs. It is easy to imagine this being the first of many wins for him in the future. However, while it can be exciting to imagine the future, it also is intriguing to inspect the past.

The stats don't lie. Jannik Sinner, who once won the Cincinnati Open, is ranked the world number one in singles by the ATP, the first Italian player in history to reach the top ranking. Likewise, Taylor Fritz has a career-high singles ranking of world number five by the ATP as well as a doubles ranking of No. 104. So it is clear to see that both these men have storied careers and big accomplishments to speak of. However, remember that history remembers its winners. So although Fritz will likely come back from this, Sinner's victory at the U.S. Open proves that he is a player to be respected and admired, perhaps even feared.

Of course, Fritz wasn't the only player Sinner beat. He also defeated Jack Draper as well as Daniil Medvedev. Draper has been ranked as high as world No. 20 in singles by the ATP and additionally has a doubles ranking of No. 477. Likewise, Medvedev has been ranked as high as the world number one in men's singles by the ATP and has won 20 ATP Tour singles titles. While it can be easy to see Draper and Medvedev as stepping stones to Sinner's victory, they were both astonishing players in their own right who have incredible careers ahead of them. It is almost a pity that at the end of the day, there could be only one champion.

In conclusion, Sinner has accomplished quite a bit, and will likely accomplish even more. However, that's not to say that Fritz is no match for him. It's a good time to be a tennis player: everywhere you look, you see another great playing his or her best. So in the future, we can look forward to more of Sinner's excellence.
