Star Safety Kyle Dugger Transition-Tagged by the Patriots

NFL

Sources say that Kyle Dugger is set to be transition-tagged by the New England Patriots. After a great season for Dugger, it did not translate to wins but he did make his presence felt on the defensive end. Kyle finished this past season with 109 total tackles and 71 solo tackles. The Patriots had a vastly poor offense but one of the best defenses in the league and Dugger was the main reason why. The Patriots ended the season 4-13. Now, he hopes to help regroup this team during the 2024 season.

The Pats are hoping this addition will make next season a bigger success. Giving Dugger the transition tag, was one of their main priorities this offseason. Kyle not only provided great defense last season but also showed tremendous leadership and mentorship. For a team that is trying to reach the playoffs once again, adding Dugger will help a lot. The newly franchise-tagged Patriot can also help develop the youth on this team with how well he handles himself and is a level-headed team player. The Patriots struggled on the defensive end this season and it was mainly due to the safety position. Also, this team gains a key box safety player which is what Dugger excels at best. In case New England wants to play a faster defense now they can without the worry of a slower linebacker. What the Pats should be ecstatic about other than this elite safety’s play is how he is always healthy. This past season with the Patriots, Dugger played all 17 games.

Some key factors to keep in mind for why Dugger got transition tagged. One factor that led to this tag was a positional need. There is no reason to sign a player at the same position that the team already has. Lastly, the last factor I believe was how important the head coach played a role in this. This is an interesting season when talking about how many coaching changes there are and it seems like the Patriots have a great coach and game plan for Kyle Dugger.
