Young Star Cornerback Gets Franchise-Tagged

NFL

It has been reported by multiple sources that star cornerback Jaylon Johnson has been franchise-tagged by the Chicago Bears. Johnson this past year has been one of the names with a lot of discussion centered around his name going into the offseason as there were tensions between him and the Chicago Bears over a contract dispute. Johnson has stated while his heart is in Chicago he was unsure if they had the money to pay him after his rookie deal.

This past year Johnson showed why he should be paid, having a monster year, and producing a 90.2 Pro Football Focus grade, one of the best at his position. Due to his tremendous year, Johnson was named to the All-Pro second team as well as the Pro Bowl. Both of which were his first selections. This past season skyrocketed his market price making him one of the highest players at the cornerback position. Johnson will look to build off his past dominant season and produce another great year by locking off one side of the field with the Bears.

Star cornerback Jaylon Johnson was drafted in the second round out of Utah. When at Utah he was known as a top-five cornerback in the nation and imposed fear in opposition with his physical play on the outside. These same traits Johnson is still known for as no matter the opponent’s receiver you can often see him in close man-to-man press. Having Johnson in your secondary virtually eliminates one side of the field. While he was very expensive in free agency it will be well worth it for the Bears, as they now have one of the few elite corners in the NFL for years to come.
