Steelers Bringing Colorado Quarterback in for a Pre-draft Visit

NFL

The Steelers still haven’t received a decision from Aaron Rodgers about their offer. The Steelers know that they need to start exploring other options for a quarterback. The team is seriously looking at drafting a quarterback. The Steelers are hosting Shedeur Sanders for a pre-draft visit on April 10th. The Steelers have also hosted pre-draft visits for quarterbacks Tyler Shough and Jaxson Dart. All three players are expected to go in the Top 100 of this year’s NFL Draft. Shough played for Louisville. Dart played for Ole Miss. Additionally, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that the team is on the Pro Day circuit.

Sanders’ father is NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders. Fellow NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk is the Buffaloes’ running backs coach. Shedeur Sanders spent two seasons with the Jackson State Tigers before joining the Colorado Buffaloes in 2023. He’s six-foot-one and weighs 212 pounds. He had an impressive collegiate football career. Sanders won the Jerry Rice Award in 2021 and the Deacon Jones Trophy in 2022. He received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 2024. Last season, Sanders had 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns. Under Sanders’ leadership, the Buffaloes had a record of 9-4 and were ranked number 25 in the Associated Press poll last season.

Sanders is expected to be a first-round draft pick. The Steelers aren’t the only team interested in Sanders. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and the Las Vegas Raiders are among the teams considering drafting Sanders. The Browns have the second overall pick, while the Giants have the third pick in this year’s draft. The Raiders have the sixth overall pick, and the Saints have the ninth pick. The Steelers have the 21st overall pick in the NFL Draft.  If the Steelers are serious about getting Sanders, they may need to trade up. It will be interesting to see which team Sanders joins. In addition to targeting a quarterback, the Steelers are believed to be seeking positions like wide receiver, running back, and defensive tackle in the draft.
