Super Bowl LVIII Champion Linebacker Resigns to the Chiefs

NFL

Last season, linebacker Drue Tranquilll didn’t put as big of numbers in 2023 with the Chiefs, then he did with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. Regardless, Tranquill wound up earning himself a Super Bowl championship when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22. After signing a one-year deal with Kansas City in 2023, Drue finds himself a free agent once again. Today, the Super Bowl LVIII champion linebacker signed a three-year 19-million-dollar deal with 13 million being guaranteed with the Chiefs.

Drue Tranquill played five seasons at the University of Notre Dame. He started three games as a true freshman, but a year later he suffered a torn ACL. He came back completely healthy during his junior season playing in all 12 games for the Fighting Irish. During his senior season, the future Super Bowl champion linebacker played in all 13 games and recorded 85 tackles, 10 and a half tackles for a loss of yardage, 1 and a half sacks, three fumble recoveries, four passes defended, one interception and one forced fumble. He also won the 2018 Wuerffel Award. Tranquill was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round as the 130th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Last season, Drue played in 16 games for the Chiefs. The Super Bowl LVIII champion linebacker had 79 combined tackles, 54 of those being solo tackles, and the other 25 were assisted tackles. He had seven tackles for a loss of yardage, four and a half sacks, and a pass deflection. Tranquill’s best game last season was during a 24-9 loss to the Denver Broncos where he had 11 combined tackles, a sack, and a tackle for a loss.
