Super Bowl Running Back Lands Contract Extension
Saquon Barkley is not going anywhere anytime soon. Today, Barkley signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles extending his time with a massive contract for the next two years of his NFL career. After going off and being one of the best running backs in the league last season and winning the Super Bowl, it was only right to keep him where he was. There was no way the Eagles were going to let Barkley go and just keep him where he was at contract-wise.
That said, Barkley’s deal is making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The contract is worth $41.2 million dollars. He would earn $20.6 million on average per year, $36 million at the signing, and $15 million in incentives. A massive increase from the current deal between the Eagles and Barkley. The previous deal signed Barkley to the team for only three years and was only $37.75 million. That contract also included $26 million in guarantees. Now, he’s been extended and will most likely finish out his career in Philadelphia. He very well may become the new face of the franchise alongside Jalen Hurts if he hasn’t done so already.
Barkley is one of the greatest assets to ever come to the Eagles franchise. Last season this running back definitely earned his keep on the team. After having several hard years with the New York Giants, he was drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was time for Barkley to make something happen and he did. He ran an almost 2,000-yard season. He continues to prove that defines all odds and breaks records. Barkley also scored a total of 15 touchdowns for the Eagles altogether. Something that NFL fans haven’t seen him do in a long time.
