Top Three Trade Candidates for the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline

NHL

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline is this Friday, March 7th. While there have been blockbuster trades before the deadline, the deadline itself still can have plenty of excitement for hockey fans everywhere. All types of players are available. From forwards to defenders to goalies, nothing and nobody is fully off the table.

Brock Nelson - New York Islanders

Brock Nelson might be the most attractive forward on the market for a squad looking to upgrade its top six. The aging veteran is in the final season of a six-year contract. He had at least 34 goals and 59 total points in each of the past three seasons prior to this current season. In addition, he currently has 19 goals and 41 total points this season. Depending on the Islanders’ belief in their playoff hopes, they are currently five points away from a wild card spot, they could trade Nelson for future assets to assist their future.

Mario Ferraro - San Jose Sharks

Mario Ferraro is a defenseman in the third year of a four-year contract. The young, 26 years old, would be a decent addition at the blue line for a contending team or one hoping to go on a long postseason run. Mario has got to be starving for the playoffs, playing nearly 400 NHL games in the regular season but zero playoff games in the league. Ferraro will be an unrestricted free agent following next season.

Daniel Vladar - Calgary Flames

Dustin Wolf is having a strong rookie season for the Flames. Wolf has taken over the top goalie spot over Daniel Vladar. This makes Vladar expendable, especially given he’s in his last contract year. Daniel Vladar can be an excellent backup for anyone willing to upgrade in that regard. Since Calgary is making a playoff push, this move is certainly possible. In order to do so, Calgary would hope to receive an upgrade in another position, which certainly requires a sacrifice of draft picks. Whether or not this will be worth it is yet to be seen.

Xavier Oldfield

Xavier Oldfield is a current college student at Grand Valley State University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. He currently beat writes for the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, and Detroit Red Wings. He is also writing about NFL, Wrestling, and College Basketball.
