Super Utility World Series Champion Lands Deal Back with the Dodgers
The utility man is slowly starting to die out in baseball, leaving only a few players defined as such. Enrique Hernandez, or Kike for short, has proven to be one of the last remaining utility players and looks to continue his contributions with the Dodgers as it was announced he signed a one year deal worth six and a half million dollars. Kike has played every position besides catcher in the big leagues making him a true unicorn when it comes to helping out the team. Wherever there is a position needed, he can easily be plugged in and perform.
Hernandez provides immense value to a team, especially for the ones that do not have a set in stone starting nine. Although his stats don’t jump off the page and are right around league average, that is not where his value lies. He has the ability to play any position on the field whenever needed and offensively can do anything that is asked of him. Kike saw his career take off with the Dodgers in the 2010s before inking a deal with the Red Sox for 2021-2023 to become their starting center fielder. In the middle of the 2023 season, he was traded back to the Dodgers to continue his utility ways.
In Hernandez, the Dodgers are getting a postseason hero. He has been one of the most clutch players in the last decade when it comes to playoff baseball. His postseason antics came to life in 2017 when he had a three home run game in the NLCS. Ever since then, he has come up big time and time again for the teams he has been on. In the 2024 season, he stepped up big again playing multiple positions and helping the Dodgers to their eighth World Series title. The selling point for Kike is that he will never back down from an opportunity. Whenever the team needs him he won’t back down and he won’t quit on the team. He is one of the best locker room players in the league and although the stat sheet may not show it, he will be one of the most important players on the Dodgers in 2025.
