Texas Longhorns Climb to Top of D1 Baseball Rankings

Yet again the D1 Baseball Rankings have seen a shift in power. The Arkansas Razorbacks were only able to hold their spot at the top for a week before they were dethroned. The Texas Longhorns have clawed their way to the top of the rankings this week sending Arkansas back down to the second spot where they’ve been residing for much of the 2025 season. Still, the SEC continues to dominate college baseball.

The reign of the Razorbacks didn’t last long. Texas managed to take three of their four games last week. Midweek wins are always important even against unranked teams unable to find a win. The Longhorns defeated Houston Christian 12-2 on April 8th and then went on to extend their win streak with a 6-3 win against Kentucky who is also unranked. Arkansas had a similar situation. A 7-3 victory in the midweek slot against Arkansas State and then a ten-point 13-3 victory over the Dawgs at the University of Georgia.

Unfortunately for the former first-ranked team, they ran out of gas after that. Two back-to-back 7-6 losses closed out their weekend against fifth-ranked Georgia. This is where their demise began. Texas did suffer one loss in their series against Kentucky but then managed to pull it together enough to secure the Sunday win and the series with a close call 5-4 victory. Though the Longhorns took a tough loss to an unranked team, they were also on the road. Without the advantage of their home field, there is a little more leniency in how losses affect rankings.

Will they remain in the top spot for long? That’s hard to say. They get the comfort of playing all four games at home this week but will face eighth-ranked Auburn in their weekend series. A series sweep would look fantastic on their 2025 resume and maybe what they need to ensure that they remain in that number one spot. This weekend Arkansas will face the national runner-up, preseason one seed and now unranked Texas A&M. The Aggies took down the former one seed and reigning College World Series champs, the Tennessee Volunteers twice. They may not be ranked but they’re clearly a team with a whole lot of drive. Arkansas will have to keep their guard up and put up good numbers against the Aggies if they want to push their way back into the top-ranked spot next Monday.
