The 2024 New York Giants Unofficial Team Roster

NFL

Training camps and the preseason are officially over for the Giants. This team had 48 hours to decide who would make the team this coming season. Many of the decisions that were made surprised the team, and many were on edge, but thankfully, things fell through for them to continue forward in the Big Apple. The current roster has been decided on; however, it may be different before the season starts on September 8th against the Minnesota Vikings.

The offense will be looking sharp for the season. The Giants kept many of the men who played for them during the preseason, including all three of their current quarterbacks, including Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito. There was talk that a possibility was to cut DeVito before the season had started. Despite his hard work from taking over from last year, the Giants had contemplated cutting him from the roster. However, due to the rules in the NFL, the thing that saved him was that every team has to have a third quarterback just in case of an emergency where the first two go out of the game due to an injury or if something else were to happen.

The Giants made their decisions on their running backs. The Giants decided to go with Devin Singletary, Tyrone Tracy Jr, and Eric Gray. It is no surprise that Gray made the starting position for this season. However, on the other hand, the Giants decided to put Dante Miller also known as “Turbo,” onto the practice squad. Despite his speed and how fast he is, it may be too risky to keep him on the field. That was a surprise to fans. The Giants also decided to cut fullback Jakob Johnson. Despite being added late to the roster, they could not find a spot for him.

The tight end position was also filled. The team chose Daniel Bellinger, Theo Johnson, and Chris Manhertz. The Giants decided not to cut wide receiver Lawrence Cager. He had excellent practices in the spring and summer and received much praise from Coach Brian Daboll. However, he did not get cut due to being out with injuries.

The wide receivers were no surprise. Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and Gunner Olszewski made the first-hand roster. Each one will be starting this coming season. They all seem explosive on the field if they can make the plays they need happen. The Giants cut all veteran players from this position, such as Allen Robinson, Isaiah Hodgins, and Miles Boykin. The Giants also made a trade last week sending tackle Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys and releasing Jalen Mills.

The Giants' offensive line this year is enormous. They had put Andrew Thomas, Jon Runyan Jr., John Michael Schmitz, Greg Van Roten, Jermaine Eluemunor, Josh Ezeudu, Aaron Stinnie, Evan Neal, and Austin Schlottmann on the starting roster. It won’t be one of the best units. However, it’s still something the Giants must work with for this coming season.

The defensive side of things is different. A year ago, there were no big surprises made on this list. Almost everyone who started last year will be starting for the Giants’ defense this year. This will be something that the Giants need to work on and work with to make things go with the flow better.

The defensive line will consist of Dexter Lawrence, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Elijah Chatman, Jordon Riley, and D.J. Davidson. This defensive line looks decent. It needs work to make those stops. However, the Giants might look for an upgrade on the waiver wire.

They have players who play the position of edge on this team, including Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Azeez Ojulari, Boogie Basham, and Benton Whitley, each who is more incredible than the last. Whitley earned a spot with an excellent training camp. He did well and proved what he had. The Giants' linebacker position is full of bodies. This position may seem heavy. However, most of the time, the more, the merrier for linebackers. Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, Isaiah Simmons, Darius Muasau, Carter Coughlin, Matthew Adams, Dyontae Johnson. All of them started this season, which is no surprise. Muasau may be going to the practice squad, but no decisions are being made yet.

The cornerback position is high and mighty for this year. The Giants needed to fill the space, and they did. However, some changes may be made to this position before Wednesday. Deonte Banks, Nick McCloud, Andru Phillips, Cordale Flott, and Tre Hawkins all made the starting roster for this year; no surprises were made there.

There have only been three safeties for each team. The Giants have decided on their three despite having had five before the cuts were made to this team. Jason Pinnock, Tyler Nubin, and Dane Belton will all play this year. Last but not least, the Giants have their special teams. They have their placekicker, Graham Gano, their punter, Jamie Gillan, and their long snapper, Casey Kreiter. The Giants have a team to work with for this coming season, and fans will look forward to it no matter the team's status. This may not be the final roster, but the Giants will start the season with this.
