The Giants Should Not Go “Any Direction” in the Draft
The New York Football Giants are in a roster predicament. Giants owner John Mara is running out of patience with his head coach, Brian Daboll, and his general manager, Joe Schoen. They have taken on two veteran quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. The problem they now face is they don’t know what they will do with the number three spot in the draft. One of Schoen's recent comments was, “We could go any direction in the draft.” This is not the plan that the Giants should have, and they should have had something set in place a while back during the offseason.
The Giants have to do something with their third pick, but they don’t realize how crucial this third pick is. They have Wilson, who signed a one-year contract, and Winston, who signed a two-year contract. They cannot wait around and decide what they will do. The Giants have been following the Schoen plan for a while, and it seems like it’s not going to get any better. They need to have a young quarterback in the position at some point, and they should be picking the top choice, provided they decide to trade up, which is what they should have done before anything else happened with signing off on players and quarterbacks.
The Tennessee Titans may have said they are not giving up the number one spot, but that doesn’t mean the Giants can’t see if they can move to number two. If Schoen passes up on any of the top quarterbacks, it won’t be pretty for the rest of the season, and the franchise may or may not see him in the front office anymore. It’s been a long six seasons, and the Giants need to improve, build on their current veterans, and not have a young team every season. They've had this problem for the last six seasons and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Schoen and Daboll need to make the right decision; the pick can not go in any direction; they need to have a decision before the 2025 NFL Draft, which starts on April 24th.
