The Most Underrated Quarterback in the League Signs with the Falcons

NFL

Since becoming a full-time starting quarterback in 2015, there is no doubt that Kirk Cousins has been the most underrated quarterback year in and year out. After leading the Minnesota Vikings to a 13-4 record in 2022, the 2023 NFL season was severely disappointing for Cousins and the Vikings. On October 29th in a matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Kirk tore his Achilles during the fourth quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the season. Now healthy once again, Kirk Cousins has signed a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.  It will be interesting to see if the soon-to-be 36-year-old quarterback will take a step back or lead the Falcons as he did the Vikings in 2022.

The big thing for Kirk Cousins in 2024 is to stay protected and protect the football. In just the eight games he played, he was sacked 17 times, four times in a 28-24 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers, and in those eight games Cousins fumbled the ball seven times. Yes, a quarterback may make a mistake and fumble the ball every now and again, but seven times is way too many, especially when the Vikings were expected to compete during the 2023 season. The … offensive line will have to really step up when it comes to protecting Cousins on every single play. If he has a good o-line that has his back, the most underrated quarterback in the NFL will have a shot to revitalize this team and make some noise in 2024.

In eight games played last season, the most underrated quarterback in the league threw 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions before his season-ending injury. Cousins completed 69.5 percent of his passes, that’s the second-best percentage of his career and his best since first starting out with Minnesota in 2018. Arguably his best game of the 2023 season was on October 23rd during a 22-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Kirk went 35 for 45, hurling 378 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception with a passing percentage of nearly 78 percent.
