The NFL Running Back Free Agent Class is Loaded!
This year’s NFL free agency is set to be a wild one. There is a loaded free agency class, especially in the running back department. Five elite running backs could turn the NFL on its heels, and we could see one team before the end of free agency look like a true Super Bowl contender. Let’s look into how this could be one of the best free-agent classes of all time.
Raiders Josh Jacobs, Giants Saquon Barkley, and Cowboys Tony Pollard are all set to hit free agency after they were not franchise-tagged by their respective squads Monday afternoon. Jacobs’ franchise tag cost around 15 million dollars, Las Vegas does not want to spend that much money on the star running back, nor does New York as they declined a 12 million dollar offer on Barkley. Dallas also declined to tag Pollard who would have cost about 12 million dollars. Other veteran running backs that did not receive a franchise tag were Titans Derrick Henry and Chargers Austin Ekeler. This past Friday, the NFL announced that the salary cap in 2024 will increase to 255 million dollars per team. That is a 14 percent differential from last year’s salary cap. It’s safe to say some of these guys will get paid well this offseason.
There are a ton of other running backs that will hit free agency this offseason. This includes Gus Edwards, J.K Dobbins, D’Andre Swift, Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, AJ Dillon, Ezekiel Elliot, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. This offseason will be a great one for many of these running backs. Will one of these guys win a Super Bowl in the 2024 season?
