The Rockets Should Solidify Their Playoff Hopes with This Trade
After a brutal 99-97 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, the Houston Rockets record sits at 32-18, placing them third in the Western Conference. Houston is arguably the NBA’s most shocking team this season, making an extraordinary leap from where they were at the same time last season. This Rockets team is stocked with young talent, but after some Western Conference foes like the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have made some shocking trades over the last few days if the Rockets want to solidify not only their playoff hopes but their championship aspirations they should seriously consider a trade for a star. As of late, plenty of stars have wanted a change of scenery. News has circulated over the past few days that the Phoenix Suns are now listing offers for Kevin Durant. The Golden State Warriors are looking to reacquire the three-time champion to pair him back with his old teammate in Stephen Curry. However, with the ever-loaded young talent flourishing in Houston, Phoenix should consider rebuilding with the assets they could receive from the Rockets.
The Rockets currently have eight players on the roster who are 25 years old or younger. Trading a guy like Fred VanVleet or Dillion Brooks who have gotten paid substantially by the Rockets when they were signed two seasons ago. Getting rid of one of those big contracts to get KD would be huge. It creates more room for the young talent to flourish while giving Houston a legitimate Hall of Fame player. While it may take time for the team to readjust, they would head into the 2024-2025 NBA Playoffs as a top two or three favorite to make it out of the Western Conference. This team has currently lost four games in a row. The Rockets must keep the wins flowing and getting a veteran champion like Durant would help this young team get through all the bumps in the road throughout the regular season. It would be tough to catch up with the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder who are currently eight games ahead of the Rockets, yet, Houston could secure the second seed over the Memphis Grizzlies if they could trade for someone like the three-time NBA champion in Kevin Durant.
Over the last decade, the Rockets have fallen short in the playoffs time and time again. Houston is ready for another NBA Championship. Perhaps getting Durant would be the answer this city needs. It would add to the shock value of this NBA Trade Deadline and would completely shape up the Western Conference in a way that would excite fans going forward. We’ll see what happens by Thursday afternoon when the trade deadline concludes, but KD it certainly a star to keep your eyes on for the next few days.
