This MLB Division Will Be More Competitive Than You Think
The 2024 MLB regular season has been underway for about ten days, and it’s been extremely interesting, to say the least. Teams like the Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, and Oakland Athletics have dug themselves in a hole already, and the way the season is going for these three teams, it looks like these franchises might hit a new low. For some other franchises, they’re having an unexpectedly great start. The Detroit Tigers are young, and fresh and are all looking to make a name for themselves, especially after a 6-1 start. Then you have the Milwaukee Brewers who just gave up ace Corbin Burnes during the offseason, and many thought they’d finally be at the bottom of the division this season. At last, there’s the Pittsburgh Pirates who also have a ton of young talent and are eyeing to make their first postseason appearance since 2015.
There are plenty of teams thriving through the first week and a half of the regular season. We know divisions like the AL East, and the NL West was going to have some serious competition for the division title. The Boston Red Sox 6-2 resurgence after last season’s debacles has made the AL East division even more enticing. With the Colorado Rockies, at 2-6, the four other teams sitting in the NL West division will be brawling it out, showcasing their talent, and why they’re the best within the division. It’s going to be interesting to see, especially because you have last year’s National League champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks looking to repeat their success, the Dodgers are absolutely loaded and are betting it all to win the World Series, while the Padres and the Giants are looking to prove their no sleeper team either. With these two great divisions, there’s one division no one has quite talked about and that’s the NL Central division. All five teams within the division are locked in, whether that’s the 5-1 Milwaukee Brewers, the 6-2 Pittsburgh Pirates, or even the 4-4 St. Louis Cardinals. Any of the five teams in the NL Central have the opportunity to win the division title.
The Milwaukee Brewers started off at a franchise-best of 4-0 before they split their two-game series with the Minnesota Twins. Milwaukee’s new ace Freddy Peralta has been dependable, and within the lineup rookies Jackson Chourio, and Oliver Dunn, while veterans Christian Yelich and Willy Adames have held it down. They have an opportunity to take the division for a second consecutive year. Pittsburgh has looked solid with their 6-2 record. They went on the road and swept the Miami Marlins in a four-game series while taking two out of three against the Washington Nationals. Last night, they faced their most challenging opponent yet in the Baltimore Orioles, which they lost 5-2. Besides losing the first two games of the season to last year’s World Series champion Texas Rangers, the Chicago Cubs have been valid at Wrigley Field with a 4-0 record, if they can win their current series against the Dodgers that would give this Cubs team some credibility. Finally, the Cincinnati Reds who are 4-3, and the 4-4 Cardinals are at the bottom of the division but don’t count them out as the Reds have some young up-and-coming stars on the roster, while the Cardinals mix of their rookies and veterans on the roster are looking to give this franchise a bounce back year. The NL Central will have everyone talking by the end of the regular season.
