Three Replacements the Giants Shouldn’t Hesitate On

NFL

The start of a brand-new football season is always exciting for some fans. However, if you're a New York Football Giants fan, you were blown out of the water by their performance in Sunday's game, and not in a good way. Daniel Jones played terribly, and it caused embarrassment to everyone who was either playing, coaching, or rooting for the New York Football Giants during the home game against the Vikings. It wasn’t just him but the rest of the team, too. However, he was a big piece of this game, ending in a 28-6 loss.

Jones was sickening to watch in the game against Minnesota. He completed only 22 out of 42 passes for 186 yards, with his two interceptions. The last blow was the pick-six on a screen pass that a veteran six-year quarterback should not be throwing. If Jones delivers more games like this, it will be ugly for the Giants. The rest of the schedule does not look any better at all for them with their upcoming games, this coming Sunday against the Commanders, the following week against the Cowboys, the Browns, the Eagles, and so on.

Coach Brian Daboll is currently in a challenging situation with Jones. The Giants are committed to Jones for the rest of the season, but the team cannot afford to wait. It's crucial that they start exploring other options immediately. The Giants have three potential replacements to consider, and the decision needs to be made soon.

One potential replacement for the Giants is veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The Giants should seriously consider this option. Tannehill is available and has a proven track record of success with a professional offense. He has the skills and experience to make a significant impact, and coach Daboll believes he could quickly adapt to the Giants' offensive scheme. While signing a veteran quarterback may not be the ideal solution, the Giants should seriously consider it if it can make a difference.

Another thought the Giants forget about in their Cinderella story with their backup quarterback from last season, Tommy DeVito. DeVito makes things happen for the Giants when they get him on the field. The man flashes brilliance when he is on the field. He was perfect in the starting position last season when both Jones and Tyrod Taylor were out due to injuries. He may not be a long-term savior for the Giants, but now that he’s been pushed back to being a third-stringer, and we may not see much of him, he still gave the Giants a chance.

Lastly, the Giants have a chance with their other backup quarterback, Drew Lock. He may be coming off the injury list, but he is still a decent player. The Giants may have signed him for one year, but he has made things happen when he is seen playing with the rest of the team that he has played on. The Giants only signed him to a one-year, five-million-dollar deal, but his starts would be good for the Giants. Lock is a quality starter; he has had moments that have been successful on the field.

Things may have been ugly for the Giants in Week One, and they have been booed off the field, but overreacting to the first loss of the season is not a big deal. However, the quarterback situation should remain in question for the next few weeks. Jones has no intention of going anywhere, and the Giants haven’t made any decisions yet. New York Fans will see what happens in the coming weeks.
