Pittsburgh Steelers That Exceeded Expectations in Falcons Game

NFL

In their season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, the Pittsburgh Steelers won with a score of 18-10 at the Falcons’ Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Pittsburgh team had a successful opener, attaining 270 total yards to the Falcons’ 226, and managing to avoid giving up any turnovers in comparison to the three that the Falcons had. Though the entire team put on an impressive performance to accomplish this win, there were a few Steelers that stood out in particular. Most notable is certainly Chris Boswell, the placekicker, who racked up a total of six field goals during the game. He kicked three of the field goals from 57, 51, and 56 yards out, adding to his standout game. Boswell even stepped in late in the fourth quarter in a decisive punt that cinched the Steelers’ victory, following his teammate Cameron Johnston’s injury.

Another player that stood out is none other than Justin Fields, who stepped in for Russell Wilson, acting as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback for the first game. Wilson, who was supposed to make his first appearance with the team, is sidelined with an injury, an event that occurred just before the Steelers were to face the Falcons. Fields played an incredible game regardless and achieved 156 yards during his season debut. This game contributed to Fields’ total quarterback rating, which currently remains at 43.0, an impressive first-appearance result. The Steeler managed to complete 17 out of his total of 23 passes, leading him to earn a completion rate of 73.9%. This statistic significantly adds to Fields’ already impressive performance, especially considering the last-minute nature of his appearance.

T.J. Watt was yet another Pittsburgh Steeler with a standout performance this past Sunday against the Falcons. Watt, an offensive linebacker, accumulated two quarterback hits, and a sack, recovered a fumble, and achieved two additional pass-rush wins out of 23 pass-rush snaps. Acting as a pivotal player for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense, the offensive linebacker also managed to force another two fumbles, though they were both invalidated because of penalties. As a way of topping off his debut season game, Watt also added a total of three defensive stops against the Falcons’ offense, moves that were incredibly important to the Steelers’ victory.
