Two-Time All-Star Center Signs with the 76ers

NBA

Since the 2022-2023 NBA regular season, two-time All-Star center Andre Drummond has been a member of the Chicago Bulls. These past two seasons however have not gone the way the Bulls hope it would as injuries, and some bad luck would put this team in the Play-In Tournament twice, where Chicago would be eliminated by the Miami Heat two seasons in a row. Drummond had a few outings this season with over 20-plus rebounds. It’s clear that although he may not be an All-Star quality player, the 30-year-old center still knows how to be an absolute rebounding machine. He just signed a two-year, $10-plus million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers today as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Drummond has played with six different teams over the course of his 12-year career. During the 2012 NBA Draft, he was selected by the Detroit Pistons as the ninth overall pick. The two-time All-Star spent seven and a half years in Detroit, then he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He spent the rest of the 2019-2020 NBA season in Cleveland before signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Midway through the 2020-2021 season, Drummond was traded once again, this time to the Philadelphia 76ers, becoming the backup for rival center Joel Embiid. Drummond signed a one-year deal with the Sixers in the offseason but was traded for a third time, now to the Brooklyn Nets. During the 2022 offseason, the Bulls signed the two-time All-Star center to a two-year deal.

This past season in 79 games played and 10 starts, the 30-year-old center averaged about eight points, nine rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block a game. Drummond had multiple games where he recorded over 20 rebounds. On February 28th in a matchup against the Cavaliers, the two-time all-star scored 17 points while pulling down 26 rebounds during a 132-123 victory. While facing the Atlanta Hawks on December 26th, Drummond dropped 24 points and grabbed 25 rebounds. He certainly still has flashes of an unwavering talent on the rebounding side of the game. The 76ers will appreciate his great talents and could be the reason why the 76ers make another playoff appearance.
