Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion Winger Signs with the Red Wings

NHL

In an attempt to win a second Stanley Cup in his career, veteran winger Vladimir Tarasenko was traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline last season, after having signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators before the start of the season. Tarasenko scored six goals in 19 games during the regular season and five more in the postseason while playing for the Panthers, adding another seasoned player to the team. Last season, Tarasenko led the Panthers to their first Stanley Cup Championship in team history, defeating the Oilers in seven games thanks to his seasoned leadership and ability to score in key situations. Tarasenko was a valuable veteran asset that many clubs were eyeing when he became a free agent for the third time in his career this summer. Now, the Detroit Red Wings have signed Tarasenko to a two-year deal, worth $9.5 million.

After playing six seasons in the Russian KHL and scoring 66 goals, Tarasenko was selected by the St. Louis Blues with the 16th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. After making his NHL debut in 2012, Tarasenko became one of the top snipers in the league very fast. He has continuously been one of the top goal scorers over the years, and he is well-known for both his ability to score in important situations and his strong, accurate shot. Tarasenko scored 553 points, assisted 291 times, and scored 262 goals throughout his 11-year tenure with the Blues.

Tarasenko was a mainstay of the Blues' offensive during his time there, as seen by his crucial contribution to the team's 2019 Stanley Cup victory. His ability to score crucial goals throughout the playoffs, in particular, solidified his standing as a clutch player. Even though Tarasenko has struggled with injuries recently, he has demonstrated his fortitude and capacity to recover, keeping his place as one of the best wingers in the game. Tarasenko will give the Red Wings’ winger group a boost going into the upcoming season as they want to win the Stanley Cup in 2024–2025.
