Veteran Tight End Signs with the Bears
The 29-year-old tight end signs a two-year 12-million-dollar deal with the Chicago Bears. Gerald Everett was a vital piece in the passing game with the Los Angeles Chargers for the past two seasons. His after-the-catch ability and clutches in critical situations helped tremendously. In his first season with the Chargers, he set career highs with 55 receptions and 555 receiving yards. Watching the connection that Everett and Justin Herbert have, it was something that the Chargers didn’t want to give up. The 6’3 250 pounder will now look to continue his effectiveness in the passing game with Chicago.
Drafted out of South Alabama, Everett has spent his seven-year NFL career playing for three different teams. He spent his first four years in the league with the Los Angeles Rams, moved to the Seattle Seahawks for a single season, and then finally landed with the Chargers in 2022. After putting up career numbers in 2022, Everett still managed to have over 50 receptions last season which is surprising after how bad their offense was. With the addition of coach Jim Harbaugh, the Chargers are looking for tight ends who can become dual threats.
Entering the off-season as an unrestricted free agent, the Bears have picked up a great pass catcher. He did leave his last game with the Chargers with a knee injury, so that is possibly something to keep notice of. Given his constant reliability, the Bears are taking the chance with the knee injury that it is not something to be worrisome. The 29-year-old is looking to help the Bears offense with his clutch play.
