Veteran Wideout Odell Beckham Jr. Signs with the Dolphins

NFL

Coming off a comeback 2023-24 season, three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. officially signed with the Miami Dolphins to continue his comeback journey. The veteran wideout returned to the football field this past season, after going through a grueling torn ACL recovery in Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. On April 9, 2023, Beckham signed a one-year “prove it” deal with the Ravens last offseason worth up to $18 million. The agreed-upon contract between the Ravens and Beckham was done in part to speed up the negotiating process of dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was placed on the non-exclusive franchise tag last season. As well, give Beckham a chance to put on tape what he has left in the tank for a potential long-term deal in the future.

Beckham, who was drafted in 2014 by the New York Giants, has made himself known as being one of the flashiest and most productive wideouts since coming into the league. Over his nine-year career in the NFL, Beckham has racked up 7,932 receiving yards for 59 touchdowns on 566 receptions. In his first five seasons, Beckham put his name on the map as the Giants’ number one wide receiver, as he tallied four 1,000-yard seasons in the Big Apple. During his tenure with the Giants, Beckham was believed to be the start of a turning point in the franchise's return to relevance. However, in the 2019 offseason, the Giants and Cleveland Browns agreed on a blockbuster trade that sent Beckham on the move.

In the following four years, Beckham suffered two torn ACL injuries in 2020 with the Browns and during Super Bowl LVI with the Rams. Beckham would decide to take the 2022-23 season to fully recover from his ACL surgery and would not sign with a team. During his one-year tenure with the Ravens last season, Beckham totaled 565 yards for three touchdowns on 35 receptions. Following an abrupt end to the Ravens’ 2023-24 season in the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs, Beckham discussed his future, as he stated, “To me if there is anything I felt about myself… regardless of anybody’s opinion or anything like that…is that I know that I can still play football.” The playmaking wideout will now have his opportunity to continue making jaw-dropping catches following his signing with the Dolphins.
