What’s Next for the Rams If They Lose to the Raiders This Sunday?

NFL

The Los Angeles Rams had the expectation to at least compete in the NFC West under the top-tier San Francisco 49ers, yet at 1-4, Los Angeles season isn't going as planned. This Sunday, the Rams are home at SoFi Stadium for a matchup against the 2-4 Las Vegas Raiders. Recently, Las Vegas traded away their best receiving option Davante Adams to the New York Jets. If Los Angeles takes another loss Sunday afternoon and drops to 1-5, there will most likely be consequences dealt as either coaches will be let go or players will be traded. There have been talks of Matthew Stafford being sent to the New York Giants as they have dealt with their own quarterback struggles in the past year and a half. Through six weeks of play, the Rams have scored 94 points. 1-5 teams like the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Cleveland Browns have scored more points than this Rams team. Something has to change, what will happen if they lose to the Raiders on Sunday?

One suggestion would be to get rid of the most high-paid players on the team and rebuild. Stafford is one of them. While receiver Puka Nacua may be someone the Rams hope to keep for their long-term plans, Cooper Kupp maybe someone else that gets looked at in the trade market. He’s still just 28 years old and has another two and a half years on his contract which gives a buyer hope Kupp resigns in the future. This Los Angeles team has lost four out of their five games by less than seven points. Another option may be to find a game-changer before the Trade Deadline. All it takes is one player’s motivation, and play on the field to spark the entire team. Perhaps the Rams need that little spark to turn their season around.

Finally, the Rams may decide to let go of Sean McVay, who has done wonders for the organization. He’s brought the team to two Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl championship during his tenure, while some management or fans may not like it, he may not be the coach who can stand by for a rebuild. We may see McVay take his talents to a Super Bowl-caliber team that’s in desperate need of his fast-paced offense. Anything could happen during their matchup against the Raiders, but if the Rams drop to 1-6, they’ll be a place they haven’t seen in quite some time.
