White Sox Break 21-Game Losing Streak

MLB

Last night in Oakland, the Chicago White Sox woes finally ended as their 21-game losing streak came to an end during a 5-1 win over the Athletics. Just the other day, they became the first team since the 1988 Baltimore Orioles to lose 20 games in a row. This Chicago team is certainly in line to obtain the first overall pick during the 2025 MLB Draft; however, it will take quite some time to see this franchise be anywhere close to good. Once the team traded away Dylan Cease before the 2024 regular season started, right away it seemed like the White Sox were in for a bumpy ride.

This win gives the White Sox their 28th win of the season. Their record now stands at a disastrous 28-88. They are 41 games back from the first-place Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central division. The White Sox have 14 fewer wins than teams like the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies, making them the clear favorite to select with the first overall pick next season. While they’re 17-40 at home, they’re 11-48 on the road. Opposing teams must feel like they will take an easy win against this White Sox team every time out. This team could finish with the worst record in modern MLB history finishing below teams like the 1962 40-120 New York Mets, 2003 43-119 Detroit Tigers, and the 2018 47-115 Baltimore Orioles.

While the White Sox have one more game against the Athletics, their next few series will certainly be challenging. This Chicago team may end up going on another losing streak as they face the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and San Francisco Giants. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this team lose over 100 games. Yet will they finish amongst the worst of the worst in MLB history?
