Will Conor McGregor Fight Again?
Conor McGregor hasn’t stepped foot into a UFC Octagon since 2021. Since then, the Irishman has been the center of various controversies, legal cases, and even a future presidential campaign. Even through it all, McGregor still holds claim to being the sport's biggest star. However, after convictions, inactivity, and his interests being set on politics, fans are left wondering if “Notorious” will ever step foot into an Octagon again.
Conor McGregor fought Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor would lose this fight, after suffering one of the most gruesome injuries in UFC history. McGregor has been out of action ever since. In 2023, Conor McGregor would coach the Ultimate Fighter, with a scheduled bout against Michael Chandler scheduled for UFC 303. The fight fell through, however, after McGregor was forced to pull out with a broken toe. After the fight cancellation, there have been no fight announcements for McGregor, and it seems highly likely that there won’t be in the future.
On November 22nd, 2024, Conor McGregor was found guilty of rape. McGregor immediately announced that he would be appealing the case. Sexual assault accusations have become common for the former double champ. Since 2020, McGregor has been involved in three separate accusations of sexual assault, including a guilty verdict. However, in the face of these heinous accusations, McGregor has set his sights on a new endeavor. Plus no, it’s not fighting.
Since 2023, McGregor has teased the idea of running for the office of President of Ireland. On March 17th, 2025, McGregor officially announced his intention to run during the 2025 Irish Presidential election. This came during McGregor’s visit to the White House. Conor McGregor seems serious about his intentions to run for president, which would of course take up all of his time.
Despite McGregor’s controversies, for better or for worse a McGregor fight would still draw the highest audience imaginable for the UFC. It has now been three years since “Mystic Mac” got into the Octagon. McGregor now seems content with the legacy he left behind in the Octagon, and so should fans. With the UFC Lightweight Division changing and evolving, along with Conor McGregor’s interests outside of the Octagon, it might now be the time to realize the biggest draw in MMA history will never fight again.
