WWE Signs Two Established Tag Teams

WWE

It seems like WWE is trying to bolster their Tag Team Division with some new signings. WWE has just signed both The Lucha Brothers of Pentagon Jr. and his brother Rey Fénix. As well as, signing legendary TNA tag team, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machine Guns. These moves could bring fresh excitement to the division.

MCMG was officially signed to WWE last week per Fightful Select. They have been rumored to join the NXT roster starting at the first episode for the CW Network, if not, soon after. They are supposedly set to be the faces of the NXT tag division. They have won seven different Tag Team Titles across the wrestling world as well as both being former TNA World Heavyweight Champions. Chris Sabin holds the record for most TNA X-Division Championships at 10 times. The question is: Why are they going to the “developmental brand” if they are so established? WWE rebranded NXT from its indie wrestling with established wrestlers to having younger and newer faces to the product. Lately, it has not seemed like that. With the likes of Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, and possibly Delta joining the NXT roster, it seems as if WWE is trying to make NXT a third brand in comparison to Raw and SmackDown once again. MCMG is the best team to lead that charge.

The situation with the Lucha Brothers of Penta and Fénix is different. Before they were signed, they wanted to be signed as a package deal, and skip NXT. The Lucha Bros are regarded as one of the best tag teams in the world and they showed that during their tenure in All Elite Wrestling. Where they have been a part of since the company's inception. They have won the Tag Team and the Trios Championships as a part of Death Triangle alongside Pac. In AEW, they have had some of the best tag team matches in that company's history with the Young Bucks and pretty much carried AEW’s Tag Division during the pandemic. The main rosters tag division is starting to pile up finally, but almost every team does not feel like they have the star power to carry the division. A casual fan may not know who the Lucha Bros are, but a hardcore fan is definitely going to know. Penta and Fénix are going to show everyone why they are going to fit right in this new era of WWE’s tag division.
