Young Defense Anchor Signs Big Deal Back with the Nets

NBA

Former second-round draft pick, Nic Claxton, has inked a four-year deal back with the Brooklyn Nets. After a slow start to his career, Claxton has made a major name for himself. In 2022-23, he led the league in field goal percentage and has averaged 12 points per game, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks across his last two seasons. For the last two years, he has been one of the NBA’s top shot-blocks, all while being a steady threat in the paint.

Going forward, it seems as though the Brooklyn Nets center Claxton is a major piece to their rebuild. After a failed experiment in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, the Nets look to hit the restart button. With a 25-year-old center secured for the future, the Nets plan to keep it young. Now it’s up to Brooklyn to surround Claxton with talent to build a full team.

Claxton brings defensive presence and athleticism to the team. As an efficient scorer and a top-10 finisher in Defensive Player of the Year last year, he is an essential piece to a successful team. The Nets seem to have the confidence for Claxton to build on his impressive seasons and turn into one of the best big men in the Eastern Conference. With many questions still for the future, it seems the Nets have figured out their long-term solution at the center position.
