Bill Belichick and the Patriots Mutually Part Ways

NFL

Well, it is officially the end of an era, as the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick have mutually agreed to part ways. After 24 seasons, and six Super Bowl champions with New England, Bill Belichick will be looking for a new head coaching job. The Patriots have now entered a new age in their franchise, and while they haven’t seen the postseason in the past two seasons, they’ll quickly try and turn things around to become a Super Bowl contending team once again. The New England Patriots' six Super Bowl championships cannot be told without Bill, the foundation, determination, and presence he brought every season certainly will be unmatched.

Belichick has a case for the greatest NFL coach of all time, which includes 302 regular season wins, which is second in NFL history behind Don Shula’s 328 wins. Also, 17 divisional titles, nine conference championships, 12 Super Bowl appearances as an assistant and head coach, and six Super Bowl championships. He led the 2007 Patriots to an undefeated record during the regular season. Bill has had 21 winning seasons as a head coach, and 31 postseason victories which is an NFL record. There was speculation for most of the season that this would be the final season Belichick would stay head coach of the Patriots, and after the team’s 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany, Patriots owner Robert Kraft knew the inevitable was happening.

Team owner Robert Kraft said, "This is a move that we mutually agreed that is needed at this time. What Bill accomplished, in my opinion, will never be duplicated. It'll be difficult to see him in a cutoff hoodie on the sideline, but I'll always wish him continued success, except when it's against the beloved Patriots," Also, Kraft said, "We're looking for someone who can help us get back to the playoffs and win. Our family is the custodian of this asset, the New England Patriots, and we know how important it is to the psyche of the community. What's gone on here the last three to four years isn't what we want, so we have a responsibility to do what we can to fix it to the best of our ability." In an Instagram post, Tom Brady wrote this about his former head coach, "We accomplished some amazing things over a long period of time, many of which will be hard to replicate. He worked every day to help us achieve the ultimate goal, in the ultimate team sport. I could never have been the player I was without you, Coach Belichick. I am forever grateful, and I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose next." Bill Belichick said, “I will always be a Patriot. We had a vision of building a championship football team that has exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations. I'm very proud of that. I'll always have those great memories and will carry those with me the rest of my life."
