Cowboys Mash on the Eagles in Sunday Night Football Win

NFL

Yesterday’s Sunday Night Football matchup was important for both teams. If the Dallas Cowboys won, they would lead the NFC East division, and the second seed throughout the NFC, while if the Philadelphia Eagles won, they would officially claim the first seed in the NFC. Well, at home the Cowboys took the lead early on, and never looked back as they defeated the Eagles 33-13. Now, the Cowboys hold the top spot in the NFC East, second in the conference, with the Eagles dropping into the fifth seed of the NFC playoff picture. Let’s check out how Dallas got this dominating win at home.

On the first drive of the game, the Dallas Cowboys would work themselves down the field with ease, as the Philadelphia Eagles' defense had no answers. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would throw a 13-yard touchdown pass to receiver CeeDee Lamb for the touchdown. Dallas’ kicker Brandon Audrey would knock down the extra point attempt, making it a 7-0 game to start out. For Philadelphia’s first drive, they had three costly penalties, which pushed them further back from scoring. On 1st and 20, Jalen Hurts initiated a quarterback run play. This resulted in Hurts fumbling the ball, giving the football back to Dallas. The Cowboys would also start to struggle with all the penalties during their second drive. Though they didn’t reach the end zone, Audrey successfully hit a 60-yard field goal to extend Dallas’ lead. A few minutes into the second quarter, Eagles kicker Jake Elliot bumped in a 52-yard field goal, to finally get his team some points on the board. Dallas made sure to continue pressing the gas and never letting go. Although the officiating crew initially called this play not a touchdown, the Cowboys challenged the play, and eventually, the play was reversed. Running back Rico Dowdle ran in one yard for a touchdown to give Dallas a 17-3 lead. With less than two minutes left in the first half, Elliot would hit another field goal for the Eagles, this time from 42 yards out, making it a 17-6 game.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys would march down the field one more time before the second quarter ended. Cowboys’ receiver Michael Gallup caught his second touchdown pass of the year, and with Audrey hitting the extra point attempt, Dallas had a 24-6 lead after two-quarters of play. Philadelphia made sure their top priority was to cut into the Cowboys’ lead during the second half. After Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox stripped the ball away from Dak Prescott, Philly’s other defensive tackle Jalen Carter recovered the ball and ran 42 yards for the touchdown. Elliot would check in that extra point to make it an 11-point game. Audrey would proceed to knock down three more field goals, one with less than five minutes in the third quarter, the second with nine minutes remaining in the ballgame, and the last field goal he hit was with 1:13 left. This would give the Dallas Cowboys a 33-13 lead and the eventual win.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott went 24 for 39 with 271 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Dallas’ running back Tony Pollard has sixteen carries for 59 yards. Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson had five receptions for 72 yards during the win. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went 18 for 27 with 197 passing yards. Philly’s running back D'Andre Swift had 11 carries for 39 rushing yards. Eagles' top receiver of the night was A. J. Brown, who had nine receptions for 94 yards. Next week, the Cowboys will head to Buffalo to face the Bills, while Philadelphia will face the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
