Five-Year Pro Linebacker Signs to the Texans

NFL

After playing four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans last season. Even though the Titans had another disappointing season once again, the five-year pro linebacker went off in 2023. Azeez certainly put every team on notice that he would like a big-time guaranteed contract that will secure him a new home in the future. Al-Shaair got his wish as today he signed with the Texans on a three-year 34-million-dollar contract.

Azeez Al-Shaair was a four-year starter at Florida Atlantic University. The future five-year pro was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team and was a Freshman All-American after leading the team with 94 tackles, seven and a half tackles for a loss of yardage, one and a half sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble. He led the Owls in tackles once again in his sophomore season with 113 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss of yardage, and returned an interception for a touchdown. He was named honorable mention All-Conference US. Al-Shaair led the Conference USA with his outstanding stats in his junior season, and in his senior year, he was on watch to win the Butkus Award but tore his ACL.

Al-Shaair was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent days after the 2019 NFL Draft. When Azeez signed with the Titans last season, he put up career numbers all around. The five-year pro linebacker played in all 17 games, recording a whopping 163 combined tackles, 84 being solo tackles, and 79 assisted tackles. He also had nine tackles for a loss of yardage, two sacks, and four pass deflections. Seven different times this season, Al-Shaair had at least ten or more tackles. In back-to-back weeks he recorded 15 combined tackles.
