Reds 2024 All-Star Hits 20/50 Mark During 10-3 Win Over the Marlins

MLB

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz is one of the brightest young players in the game today. He’s easily surpassing his rookie numbers, and last night during a 10-3 win over the Miami Marlins, De La Cruz achieved two firsts in his career. The 2024 all-star hit four extra-base hits for the first time in his career and reached the 20/50 mark. At the beginning of the season, many thought De La Cruz could outshine last year’s National League MVP Ronald Acuña Jr.’s number of 73 stolen bases. While the Reds are 54-58 and sit in fourth place in the National League Central division, this team has certainly made huge strides since last season.

De La Cruz became the third Reds player to record over 20 home runs and 50 steals. The others were Joe Morgan, who hit this mark three times, and Eric Davis, who recorded this record during the 1986 and 1987 regular seasons. The 2024 all-star is now the 14th player in MLB history to reach a 20/50 season. During the 10-3 win, De La Cruz went four for five having two doubles and two home runs. He became the second Reds player since 1901 to have two doubles and two home runs in a single game. The other was Paul O’Neill. The 2024 all-star has been a cornerstone piece for this Reds organization, and will eye to keep this team near the National League Wild Card race.

So far, he’s played in 109 games. In 412 at-bats, the 2024 all-star has recorded 105 hits, 18 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 57 stolen bases with a .255 batting average. He’s put up 14 hits, five home runs, an RBI, and 18 stolen bases more than he did last season during his rookie campaign. De La Cruz can far surpass these numbers with another two months of regular season action left to go. It will certainly be interesting how the Reds finish and were De La Cruz’s numbers lie at the end of the season.
