The Yankees Are Falling Apart

MLB

It’s been disappointing to watch what’s happened to the New York Yankees over the past month and a half. While they’ve shown the occasional sign of life, the team went from undoubtedly the best in MLB to a team that loses most of their games, hovering in a Wild Card spot only because of the start they got off to. The Yankees had shown flashes of light recently, but the New York Mets capped off the two games they’d taken earlier in the summer against them on Tuesday and Wednesday, completing a Subway Series sweep. It was almost embarrassing to watch the Yankees during Wednesday’s game, as they took a 12-3 loss. It seems that nothing is currently clicking for the team, and though it's a long season, things need to turn around as soon as possible if they want to have any chance in the playoffs.

It’s weird how things have changed, because at the beginning of this season, the Mets were undoubtedly one of the worst teams in baseball, and the Yankees were undoubtedly the best team in baseball. The Mets have completely turned their season around, and just like they say, they currently, “own” the Yankees. I say that as a Yankees fan, it’s just that our play recently has been extremely unmotivating. To start, we’ll need everyone besides Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Ben Rice to start hitting. Players like D.J. LeMahieu, Alex Verdugo, and Anthony Volpe are going to have to start stepping up more as well if the team wants to succeed. It’s much easier said than done, but this area, along with pitching, is where the Yankees are lacking most.

As the deadline approaches, it’s time for the Yankees to make some serious moves. They should consider a middle-of-the-order bat like Brent Rooker or Mark Canha. They could also use Garrett Crochet, or really any sort of pitching, whether it be for the bullpen or starting rotation. The name of the game for New York right now is inconsistency. Once we start being more consistent, I do believe things will turn around, and we can all only hope so.
