Why Didn’t a Heel Win on Raw’s Debut on Netflix?

WWE

Last night, Monday Night Raw aired their first-ever episode on Netflix. With millions of old and new fans watching, the WWE did everything they could to make this a great first episode after decades of airing on the USA Network. While the nostalgia settled in for some when we saw The Rock, John Cena, The Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan, there was something that was different from most Monday Night Raw episodes, that being none of the heels in the four matches aired won. Usually on most occasions on Raw, you’ll see the heel get one over on the babyface at least once an episode, however, in all four matches during this first episode on Netflix, the babyface all came out on top. Was that to make the first episode a genuinely pleasing one for fans, to give them what they want to garnish as much attention as possible?

I was certain that Drew McIntrye would pick up the win against “Main Event” Jey Uso after McIntrye started attacking everyone who has helped Roman Reigns over the course of his reign as the WWE Undisputed Champion. The Scottish Warrior defeated Sami Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event last month, and by the looks of that, while having Uso never defeated him up to that point, it seemed certain McIntyre would win. Instead, Jey picked up a decisive victory. Even in the Tribal Combat match, a part of me felt Solo Sikoa was somehow going to pick up the win. Instead, Reigns won and was officially named the only and the original tribal chief. The Rock put the ula fala around Roman’s neck, and what we thought would be Rock turning on Roman did not happen. The road to WrestleMania will be an interesting one for Reigns now that he’s regained his bloodline, his ula fala, and his confidence back.

Certainly, we’ll see some heels come out on top next week. Finn Balor could pull off the win against Damian Priest in a street fight. Chad Gable may pick up the victory against his mystery opponent which is highly speculated to be Penta. The finals for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship match will take place. How would you rate the first episode of Monday Night Raw on Netflix? Was it everything you hoped for or was it disappointing?
