Former Giants Quarterback Signs with Vikings

NFL

Daniel Jones has officially moved on from the New York Giants. As of 4 p.m. on Monday, it was made clear that he was released into free agency. As of today, it was announced that he has chosen to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, a team with high standards that will most likely be heading to the playoffs at the end of this season. He will serve as a backup to Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens for the rest of the season.

While Jones was in free agency, around 10 teams across the league showed interest in him, trying to pick him up. The Raiders, Ravens, 49ers, and other teams were among those expressing interest in the veteran quarterback. Money is not believed to have been a major factor in his new signing. He is expected to sign with the team for roughly $375K. This is a slight contrast to the Giants, who are earning around eight figures this season after his release. Things seem to be going better for him so far, and the Vikings needed another quarterback. Interestingly, the Vikings are the team Jones beat when he led the Giants to the first round of the playoffs in the 2023 season.

Jones played for the Giants earlier in the season, and the team currently sits at 2-9. After a rollercoaster five-and-a-half seasons with the Giants, Tommy DeVito was named the team's starting quarterback before everything fell apart. As of last week, things took a turn for the worse when Jones was benched, moved to the fourth string, and then requested his release from the team. Jones will start on the Minnesota practice squad and work his way up to the team. Mullens and Darnold are at the top of the depth chart. Jones wanted to play for a playoff-contending team, and he got exactly what he wanted. He hopes to work with a better coaching staff and teammates. This could be a great move for him.
