Four-Time All-Star Breaks All-Time Scoring Record for the Suns

NBA

In a 121-119 overtime loss against the Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker hit a three-pointer to give the Suns a 65-58 lead. That three-pointer put Booker as the all-time leading scorer for the Suns franchise with 15,668 points passing Walter Davis. Needing 23 points entering the game against the Trail Blazers, the four-time all-star dropped 24 points midway through the third quarter. At 25-24, the Suns need this continued production from the guy they drafted back in 2015 if they want to continue to topple the Western Conference standings. One of the biggest questions that needs to be answered after this game is will the Suns trade Kevin Durant? Will they trade for any assets to compete in a brutally tough Western Conference?

Booker was drafted with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Suns. He’s been with this team through one of its darkest times and brought the franchise back to NBA Finals glory in 2021. Even though they lost in the 2021 NBA Finals, the four-time all-star has come out as one of the NBA’s top players. With the addition of KD and Bradley Beal, this Suns team was supposed to be a title contender, however, that hasn’t been the case. With recent rumors of the Suns front office listing offers for Durant, it seems like the Suns are heading back to a place perhaps Booker does not want to be in. Regardless, Booker has been a franchise changer and would help any franchise out, if he decides that his time in Phoenix is coming to a close.

Phoenix recently acquired Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets to help with the team’s rim protection and rebounding. However, this may not be enough. This Suns team has lost two straight games to the Trail Blazers, the Suns have also lost three out of their last four games and don’t look to be in the best position to be a significant playoff team. Booker, even though he’s now the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, could request a trade that sees him play for a more championship-caliber team. It would be interesting to see if Booker and the Suns front office can find some complementary pieces that will improve the Suns franchise going forward.
